This year will most certainly be remembered for the number of challenges we had to face. Within a difficult economic environment, the Dohne Merino still strived to reach new hights. Our wool made headlines on auctions and the demand for Dohne Lambs at feedlots and abattoirs was very good. Remarkably the demand for especially Dohne Merino rams was still very healthy. It makes me exited when I think of what the future holds for the Dohne Merino!
The adjustments made to our selection criteria was tackled with great seriousness. We believe that it will be to the benefit of our breed, and we will keep on striving to breed economical sustainable sheep. The technical committee worked hard on this and I thank them for all their inputs. Please pay careful attention that selection of animals is done within the regulations and guidelines as prescribed by the Society to ensure the credibility of our breed.
Dohne Merino Inspectors are the cornerstone of the Society, and I want to thank you for your selfless service to our industry.
As life goes on, we said farewell to some of our breeders but at the same time we welcome all new entrants to the broader Dohne Merino family.
This was definitely a year of change for the Dohne Merino Society. I am more than convinced that together we can place this wonderful breed at number one on the podium.
A big thank you to council, Annelize and Susan for all you support and inputs.
May you have a blessed year and as the saying goes: “may you have rain there were your sheep graze.”
Greetings
