ANOTHER ANIMAL SCIENTIST PASSES AWAY

Recently a number of experts in the field of Dohne Merino farming passed away.  It is with sadness that the Dohne Merino comunity and the livestock industry at large, took notice of the passing away of Mr. Hendrik van Pletzen on the 7th of January 2019 after a long sickbed.  Hendrik van Pletzen will be remembered for an extremely successful career in the field of Farming.  His field of expertise centered on animal nutrition and lately he was stationed at Bloemfontein in service of Voermol.  Hendrik’s interest in animal improvement stretched  much further and from the beginning of his career he was instrumental in training small stock breeders in the use of measurement as the basis of improving all aspects of livestock farming.    He was a member of the technical committee of Merino SA and recently received honorary membership of the Merino Breed Society.  Hendrik was also involved in the scientific improvement of the van Pletzen family’s Merino stud in the Jamestown district.  The Dohne Merino Breed Society which had a close relationship with Hendrik, extend its condolences to Hendrik van Pletzens wife, children, family and friends.
