National Sale 2015 – Pre-Sale Awards

The occasion of the National Sale of the Dohne Merino Breed Society was hosted by CMW on the 18th February 2015. An out-standing feature of this sale, was the well disciplined manner in which the entire event was organised by CMW.

A total of 43 outstanding stud rams were sold at an average price of R29,293. Both the average price (-R272) and turnover (-R12,990) were marginally lower than 2014. Maintaining such high Price levels for a peri-od of more than three years, speaks volumes for the high standing of the breed in the Sheep and Wool industry. Congratulations to Mr Clark Rattray and DH (Boeta) Wessels who attained the highest Price of R130,000 for two individual rams.

During the pre-sale function, the National Top Breeder award was awarded to Mr. Mi-chael Swart of Swarco Dohnes, Swartrivier, Caledon. The Swarco stud has outstanding-ly performed at National Sales over a long period of time. All persons involved in this stud justly deserved the special presentation of jackets by CMW for their extremely high levels of dedication and loyal support of es-pecially the National Dohne Merino sale.

It was with a tad of sadness that council had to bid farewell to Mr. Freddy Schmidt after 20 years of excellent service to the council of the Dohne Merino Breed Society. Freddy’s loyal support of the Breed and dedicated ser-vice to the Dohne Merino industry, will how-ever continue to set the example.

The pre-sale auctioneering of the advertising space in the Dohne Merino Journal was very well supported. Dohne News wishes to ex-tend its gratitude to all readers of both the Journal and Dohne News as well as all ad-vertisers and especially our main spon-sors—BKB-CMW-Voermol-Molatek for their support.
