Despite all negative predictions, the Dohne Merino Production sales season started off on a stable but positive note. Rain starting to fall in all major production areas, as well as the welcome increase in the wool price had a pronounced effect on both the number and price of Dohne Merino rams sold. A summary of prelimanary sales results in comparison with last year’s statistics is presented below:
Table – Production sales results in comparison with last year (2015)
[table id=15 /]
Turnover on the Autumn sales is 7.9 percent higher than that for 2015. Dohne Merino wants to congratulate CRUX Dohnes on their highest price of R50 000 for a ram on this season’s sales and also selling the most number of rams (111). Vlakkloof Dohnes, Protem, staged the production sale with the highest average price of R9600 for 46 rams sold. The Vlakkloof Dohne stud must be congratulated on marketing its rams so well in a very competitive market.
The office of the Dohne Merino Breed Society expresses its gratitude to all our breeders for their special effort to market their rams and the breed so effectively during tough times. We are looking forward to an even more successful spring ram sale season!
